I love a good food holiday as much as the next person – actually, I probably love them a little more.
There are plenty of good September Food Holidays to note.
Many local and national chains take advantage of food holidays to offer freebies and deals. I fully expect good freebies to be announced for National Cheeseburger Day (September 18), National Ice Cream Cone Day (September 22), and National Pancake Day (September 26).
One more day to note in September: National Coffee Day on September 29. Stop by your favorite coffee house to see what they have to offer.
The purpose of many food holidays is to bring awareness and benefits of certain foods. For instance, September is National Chicken Month, National Potato Month, and California Wine Month. It’s also Better Breakfast Month, which is just one of at least 16 breakfast holidays throughout the year, and more.
Other food holidays are just plain fun.
One of such days is Talk Like A Pirate Day. Not a food holiday per say, but Krispy Kreme traditionally gives a free donut to anyone who comes in and talks like a pirate on September 19. Those who dress like a pirate are eligible for a dozen donuts. Here’s a nice list of other free Krispy Kreme days. UPDATE 9/5: Sad to report that Krispy Creme is ending this promotion.
